by:Anthony J Trimboli- Howard Beach, New York- EDITORIAL- Everything was handled smoothly when I almost stepped on some slush that turned into ice last night at 9 PM where I decided to leave a note for the neighbor rather than use 911 or get the people at NYC Sanitation or the NYPD involved in it. I mentioned that on many occasions, NYC Sanitation and the NYPD can be too much involved in giving violations, especially if it is a circumstance like where the slush freezes into ice at night and they feel that somebody should come out at 9 PM to remove the ice.
I was able to speak to the neighbor today and was shocked at how smoothly the thing with me almost slipping over the slush that turned into ice at 9 PM at night was handled. It was nothing big and no summonses were offered by NYPD or NYC Sanitation and the neighbor merely put some rock salt on the ice and the ice is fairly melted at this time. Actually, little or no ice is there to block the sidewalk.
I said hello to the neighbor today at 98-16 and somebody was out late last night to pick up the ice with rock salt and a shovel. It must have gotten icy late at night and the slush turned into ice late at night. Somebody at the home was out late that night to clean it up. The neighbor passed and yes he did a good job in cleaning up the ice so that the front stoop and the sidewalk of his house was not icy.
I could not believe how smoothly this was handled rather than getting people like the NYPD or NYC Sanitation on the case to inspect the fall I took. Again, in New York City, both the NYPD and NYC Sanitation are really out there to give tickets to people even if it is a situation where the ice freezes at night.
No big show or no big performance here. All was handled smoothly by me. I think that when you get the NYPD or NYC Sanitation there may be too much surrounding or too many questions concerning the incident. I can not believe how smoothly the incident was handled with me almost taking a bad fall over the slush that froze last night.
