by:Anthony J Trimboli- Howard Beach, New York- I once interviewed a young person my age, age 29, about a year ago concerning her like for my community being Howard Beach, Queens. I was talking with her and she told me numerous interesting things about the community that I now see in lots of Queens and Long Island and Brooklyn compared to parts of Manhattan, New York.
She was telling me that she remembered me throughout my schooling and she remembered lots of others around here in Howard Beach and others in other communities of Queens and partially Brooklyn throughout her schooling and she noted that the area was markedly different than other areas around here.
After some bad experiences in travels to areas funny enough like Manhattan, with ignorant people and people just different that will just knock you over and not say sorry or situations that will injure you, you sort of agree with this young lady who I spoke to who thought the same way about her schooling and people in Queens, a small section of Brooklyn, and my community, Howard Beach. To the best of my knowledge, Long Island can be a group that will travel out to Manhattan also, out there can be more desolate on occasions.
I really liked it when I spoke with this young girl who said that merely Howard Beach had something "different" about it for her. She mentioned "different" and I agree with her as a person my age. People have to learn that you do not get the same people in all areas around any place. Even some communities in Queens do not relate to one another. Queens can still be an area, I see, where some of the people are still around, Brooklyn and Long Island currently funny enough look fully like areas where people constantly go into Manhattan each day, including New Jersey. The streets are almost bare during the day with people elsewhere and houses vacant until like 10 PM at night.
I never really understood why many kids in my community are people who are just friendly and consider themselves people who like to socialize with others and make friends as openly as they do. I think they are sort of stressing how Howard Beach and some other areas that they traveled to in their schooling in Queens and parts of Brooklyn really can be different in terms of just people who you are around. I know of many kids around here,my age, who I went to school with, that just love being in this area because it is "different" and say like "don't you like this place??"
The majority of people currently it seems especially in Brooklyn and Long Island tend to still be off in Manhattan at this time which is not a bad place to be. But, I agreed fully with this young girl and with others who i went to school with that certain areas of Queens may have qualities that other areas do not have. These words came from a young girl my age and some others my age throughout my school years.
The majority, especially, Long Island, and New Jersey and even Brooklyn seem to be out there in Manhattan. Again, I do not think this is bad, but I think around here may serve a purpose to it for that friendly element these others my age told me about that I see existent.
