by:Anthony J Trimboli- Queens, New York (ALERT)- If you are a commuter on any of the parkways in New York City besides the Grand Central Parkway or Interboro Parkway, please watch out for dirt and debris that sort of slides into the right lane of the parkways. This occurs the most on the Belt Parkway, Cross Island Parkway, and Van Wyck Expressway. It does not usually happen on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway or the Interboro Parkway and the Grand Central Parkway.
An accident almost occured when a car almost ran over a brick that slid onto the right lane of the Belt Parkway yesterday, I assume either in South Ozone Park, New York or around the Springfield Gardens, New York area of the Belt Parkway East Bound. The driver complained that the vehicle almost ran over a brick that was on the side of the road that seemed like it slid onto the right lane partially.
Again, according to the Rosedale Civic Association, if it were their area, they would have brought out somebody of the Rosedale Civilian Patrol out to check out the parkway and remove the brick. But, it happened slightly before that. It was not in Rosedale, New York.
According to 311, even if they forward you to 911 emergency where you almost run over a brick on the parkway, it may take eight hours to one day for the brick to be removed and cars can constantly run over it. Even if you directly report it to 911 as being hazardous, it is automatically reported to 311 and nobody gets there until like a day after or eight hours.
Although I can not guarantee that the brick will be removed as soon as possible from the parkway here or any other debris, you can and should dial 311 or 212-NEW-YORK if you are out of the county and are like in Nassau or Suffolk and want to report debris. Remember, even if they send the call over to NYPD 911, you are NOT guaranteed that the brick will be removed from one of the lanes of the parkway. It may take eight hours to even one day or so.
Please if you commute on the NYC parkways like the Belt Parkway, the Cross Island Parkway, the Van Wyck Expressway, please watch out for debris in the road that may fall and block one of the lanes on the roads of the parkways. Just be observant of that right lane mostly. You sometimes get it in the left lane, which is the fast lane, but it is mostly in the right lane, like debris that falls from the side median and then goes into the right lane partially. You are not guaranteed a quick response from New York City in this case nor Nassau or Suffolk County, sorry, but just check and you still should dial 311.
