by:Anthony J Trimboli- Queens, New York- As you know, New York City roads out here in Queens and other boroughs have problems with refuse in the road. In the case that you almost run over a brick or almost blow out a tire on the road over something, you have to dial 311 or 212-NEW-YORK.
The American Automobile Association of New York in this area, being Garden City, New York is not there to pick up any refuse in the road such as car parts or bricks, etc. This is not their job at the American Automobile Association. The only time it can tie in is if you break a tire over the brick or get your car stuck over some sort of refuse on the road, like auto body parts and then you have your car stuck. Then AAA can get involved, but it chooses not to get involved with any incidents involving refuse on the roads from bricks to auto parts that are in the middle of the roads. You must dial 311 or 212-NEW-YORK to report refuse blocking the lanes partially and they can not guarantee you a quick response at all, even if they forward you to 911 when you make the 311 call because of the dangerous situation. Even if you direct dial 911, they just most likely will forward you back to 311, according to somebody at the Rosedale Civic Association, but an organization under her called the Rosedale Civilian Patrol will gladly pick up the refuse from the road and she asks that you do it yourself if you can in her community just to avoid any other accidents.
I hope I was able to assist Queens, New York residents with the current problem of refuse and debris found on New York City roads such as the Belt Parkway and the Cross Island Parkway and the Van Wyck Expressway. Again, you can follow the advice of the woman of Rosedale Civic and pick up the refuse yourself to save other drivers, but not all people in New York City are requested to do so, NYC Sanitation may want the refuse to remain there so that they can analyze the accident further.
I hope I was of assistance to you further in this current issue here in Queens, New York with refuse on roads.
