QUEENS, NY- IF YOU LIVE IN QUEENS AND COMMUTE TO LONG ISLAND, TWO OF THE BEST ROUTES TO TAKE

by:Anthony J Trimboli- Queens, New York- People in Queens very infreuquently travel to Long Island for work, but they can. The majority of Queens residents I believe work in Manhattan.

As you know, many of the parkways that lead into Long Island from Queens such as the Southern State Parkway and Long Island Expressway(we should know that one already) are highly congested in the morning. The Long Island Expressway, stemming from Midtown Manhattan is congested in the mornings going both directions, I thought also the Southern State had this too, but no.

The Long Island Expressway is one of the worst moves you can make to go to Long Island if you live in Queens and work out on Long Island. Every morning, you have traffic on the Long Island Expressway, Monday through Friday, and traffic weekends in the afternoon of people traveling out there, heavy traffic going both directions for work. I assume people from Midtown Manhattan may work out on Long Island; I do not think New Jersey or Westchester people work out there. Connecticut people may; but that is a different route.

The best parkway to take to get you to work if you work out on Long Island and live in Queens(it can be a horrible minority you are in) is the Northern State Parkway which stems from the Grand Central Parkway. It is usually a light flow heading EAST on the parkway, but west is congested as usual. If you work mid shore throughout the entire Long Island area, the best bet would be the Northern State Parkway. Please do not take the Long Island Expressway!!!!

Also, some good routes besides the Sunrise Highway would be the small boulevards out there such as Jericho Turnpike and Merrick Road(an excellent choice) or Hillside Avenue or Northern Blvd to a degree. But, the others are the best, Sunrise Highway and Northern Blvd can also get a bit congested. In the case of Northern Blvd, I am still wondering if people from Midtown Manhattan go out there to work on Long Island. The LIE is a horrible horrible choice to take.

Again, traffic conditions have changed here in New York City and it may look like people are going to work more from Queens to Long Island. If you live in Queens and work on Long Island, you are in a minority--any area of Queens even by tne borders have a huge flock and influx of people that travel out to Manhattan, New York to work in the usual areas, the same applies to Long Island. Currently, the traffic conditions have changed and I thought people actually were working out there on Long Island from Queens. I do not believe a large amount does, however.

I hope you find my instructions valuable because I know of people who do indeed travel to Long Island to work from Queens, which is a horrible minority of people, but we do have them and the parkways can be bad going East currently, which is a shocker to me, so can Sunrise Highway and Northern Blvd.

I hope you value my advice.
