by:Anthony J Trimboli- Here in Queens, there has been much talk about the Metropolitan Transportation Authority taking over the private bus lines that used to be in Queens. The private bus lines were The Green Bus Lines, Triboro Coach, Jamaica Buses, Queens Surface, Inc, etc. Now, all are run by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority under an organization called MTA Bus.
People constantly are saying that service has not improved and pretty much stayed the same, and they can be very correct, but the changes in the private bus lines when they were incorporated into the MTA here in Queens into MTA Bus is seen MOSTLY in another way that a mere person who rides the bus would not know.
One change is a larger fleet of buses with a larger selection of buses. You have more buses now in these depots than when it was the private bus lines. If a bus stalls out, they for sure, are able to bring a brand new bus out to replace it.
Also, the buses over here CAN be more comfortable to ride on since they now have the MTA type style to them, the MTA,as you know runs MOSTLY Metro North and Long Island Rail Road and also took over New York City Transit and Long Island Bus and the bridges. Some buses that are now incorporated into MTA Bus now are almost funny enough like riding on a Metro North or LIRR train here in local areas of Queens such as padded seats and a comfortable ride and even the look a little is like Metro North and the LIRR, as funny as it sounds.
Although it is not altogether that visible, the change mostly lays in the fact that I think there are more buses out there since MTA Bus took over the private bus lines here in New York City, such as if a bus stalls out, you might or most likely will have better availability to get a bus. As for the changes in seating on the buses to padded seats, some of these buses over here almost have a feel like riding on the Metro North on Queens Boulevard or in a small area of Queens.
Again, this element people do not see in the buses here in Queens that were changed to MTA Bus. I just noticed them myself.
