by:Anthony J Trimboli- Belt Parkway, Howard Beach, New York- I am a 29 year old writer for the QueensPost.com writing to share my opinion with you about a recent bad malfunction I experienced while speaking to a fire dispatcher on a Highway box here in Howard Beach, Queens.
Electrical wires were all over the place on Cross Bay Blvd, including a small black socket that was in the middle of a turn lane in Howard Beach on 157 Avenue and Cross Bay Blvd in front of the local pizzeria in Howard Beach, being New Park Pizza. So, as instructed by FDNY Inspectors Office, I decided to call in the wires on the center median and on the boulevard and this small black switch box that is sort of still in one of the turn lanes of Cross Bay Blvd.
I was speaking to the Fire Dispatcher on the Highway Box after the NYPD Operator forwarded me over to him and I could not speak to him clearly. The reason why was a strange echo at the other end that strongly made me hear myself talk as I was talking to him. The FDNY Dispatcher heard this too and wondering what was going on with communication. Imagine talking to somebody and hearing an echo or something. Once this happened before when I reported electrical wires in a bus stop in Grenwich Village, Manhattan and the word of the FDNY dispatcher on that day made me laugh "Where are you and why are you repeating??? It sounds like you are in a cavern or something--ohhh, the police operator forwarded me to you." Why must there be an echo sound at the other end when you speak to the FDNY Fire Dispatcher??? Unknown. I hope that FDNY Field Communications catches up to this problem. It sounds like I am speaking in a cavern or something!!!!
I hate it when you have to make an important call that way and there is a problem with the emergency system.
