EDITORIAL- HOWARD BEACH-JFK STATION: NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THESE STAIRS

by:Anthony J Trimboli- EDITORIAL- Howard Beach, New York- I am a 29 year old young man who is writing to express their opinion on how clean the steps are at the new castle in Howard Beach, NEw York being the Howard Beach-JFK Station that was erected there literally back in 2004.

New York City Transit has SO MANY signs concerning litter on the steps. You have signs here and there concerning litter and watch out for trash. It makes the job of New York City Transit harder when the NYPD does not care or does not even radio in the problems with litter on the stairs.

I spoke only to ONE cop of the NYPD who cared and gave a call to One Police Plz of the NYPD and to whomever concerning me almost falling down the stairs at a West 4 Street Station over a can that was in the middle of the station. The New York City Police Officer, an Officer Santana of PSA 4 of East Village of Manhattan was concerned and asked many questions if I was OK. He also gave me good advice on who to tell but also went into a whole lot if I was OK after falling. When I got a letter and a phone call later on after speaking to Officer Santana of PSA 4 of the East Village of Manhattan, New York, I knew he showed concern. A police officer of the NYPD in the Rockaways at the 101 Precinct once questioned if a police officer of Transit District 2 gave me a hard time when I told him that a woman almost fell straight down the stairs at Jay St Sta in front of me and he told me to get the heck of out his office at Transit District 2. The same applied to Transit District 30 when the captain there did not seem to care about litter on stairs and told me to get out of his office and bother the clerk of the New York City Transit station. According to a different officer of the 101st Precinct in the Rockaways, both TD 2 and TD 30 may have just given me a tough time.

Things like vommit found on the stairs like I found for three consecutive days there made me feel strange. The stairs are kept up well at Howard Beach JFK like the rest of the station and you could slip and do a good slide kelly slide on the stairs over the vommit. I had to report it to Brooklyn however to have it gone. It seems strange how it is not there anymore. When I spoke to Brooklyn, I told them that it seemed like somebody had anorexia or something.

I am glad Howard Beach is one station that is kept up well by the porters of New York City Transit in their area and by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Many stations are having people complain around the area that people are falling down them and when the cops at TD 30 and TD 2 told me to get out of their office when I reported litter to them with the angry New York City Transit putting signs up against litter, it angered me. Although the CCRB never got back to me on their behavior, New York City Transit says it is best to keep it with them. I guess litter is not a big issue in the eyes of the officers of TD 2 or TD 30 when they tell you to bother the clerk or to get out while New York City Transit wants you to tell a cop about litter on the stations.

People should feel grateful that Howard Beach has clean stairs that are kept up, but the place is watched like a castle or something. It is watched like a fortress or something, but it has safe stairs. It also seems like the local precinct near by the 101, also seems to care more than just throwing you out and telling you to bother the clerk. Wow.

I feel grateful that the stairs of Howard Beach station, the fortress and castle is kept this well. There are too many complaints about people falling down subway stairs and uncaring cops, etc. We should be grateful for this.
