by:Anthony J Trimboli- Lost items on New York City streets has Queens quizzical among Manhattan, New York. People are finding lots of lost valuables in the streets from childrens clothes to computers to gloves, etc.
The New York City Police Department 9th Precinct says that it is no longer the responsibility of the NYC Police Dept to hold on to things that are not like an ATM card or a credit card or something like that. An officer of the 9th Precinct says that the NYPD is not the place to find a lost item that is nice and return it to them. The NYPD only collects items like credit cards and ATM cards and perhaps things for the elderly, according to the 9th Precinct. They collect no other valuables.
The best thing to do with these lost items you find around Queens and Manhattan in the streets is to give them to a shelter for the needy, according to somebody in charge of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce. He was told the story about me finding a young girls coat in the street strangely enough and he told me that I should try to give it to a shelter for the homeless or something. He felt a little bit saddened at what an officer of the 9th Precinct of the NYPD told me about how you should NOT give them lost items because it distracts them from crime fighting. Since the NYPD and Dept of Sanitation of NYC does not collect lost items like a lost jacket of a girl or something like that you find, you have to give it to a homeless shelter or thrift shop as the man at the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce told me.
Residents still are questioning why strange items are being found in areas. Once, New York City Transit was notified about a wheelchair I found in a bus stop in Manhattan. The person at NYCT BUS suggested that I call the NYPD about the lost chair in the bus stop of East Village. Later, when some nice photos of people at a prom were lost on the streets of the East Village, thought I was nice and wanted to give them into the 9th Precinct and the cop did not want them. The NYPD does not collect items like kids at a prom, he laughed at that, they only collect ATM Cards and Debit Cards and Credit Cards.
People really can be shocked at all these lots items in the streets. When New York City Transit was shocked at me reporting once a wheelchair in the bus stop in the East Village, he laughed so loud and just called it strange. But, the NYPD and Dept of Sanitation of New York City does NOT collect lost items like nice photos of kids at the prom or even a lost girl's jacket like were found in the East Village and in Sunnyside.
Residents are still wondering.
